Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Q: I've never been to therapy before. What should I expect?

Therapy sessions are a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges at your own pace. Together, we will clarify what you would like support with, set goals when helpful, and develop practical tools to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and confident in your daily life.

Session frequency is flexible and tailored to your needs. When we are working toward a specific concern, sessions often begin on a weekly basis to support momentum and progress. As you begin to notice changes and feel more confident using your coping skills, we may gradually space sessions out. If you are seeking a supportive space to process thoughts or life experiences without a specific goal, we can meet at a pace that feels right for you. We will revisit this together as therapy unfolds.

Q: How do I know if therapy will help me?

Therapy is the most effective when you feel safe, supported, and willing to engage in the process. While every journey is different, my approach focuses on emotional growth, self-compassion and practical tools to help you manage stress, depression, ADHD, anxiety or life transitions.

We will regularly check in about how therapy is feeling for you and whether you are noticing progress. If at any point you feel that therapy is not meeting your needs, it is important to address that openly. If I believe you may benefit from a different therapeutic approach, my ethical commitment is to support you in finding the right fit by offering referrals and recommendations.

Therapy is something we engage in when we need support. The goal is not to stay in therapy, but to help you gain the tools, insight, and confidence to go live your life fully, with the understanding that if you ever need therapy again, support is available and you are always welcome to return.

Q: How do I schedule a session?

You can Request an Appointment online or by reaching out directly at 201-241-4382. I offer a free 15-min consultation to see if we to see if we're a good fit and answer any questions you may have.

If you are reaching out by phone, text messages tend to work best, as I am often in session and may not be able to answer calls right away. If you prefer to call and do not reach me, please leave a voicemail so I know to follow up with you. I will return your message as soon as possible.

Q: What does “out-of-network” mean, and how does reimbursement work?
It means I’m not currently in network with your insurance. You pay for sessions upfront, and if your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you can submit claims for reimbursement. I provide a detailed invoice (called a superbill) and guidance to make the process as simple as possible.

If you’re not sure about your benefits, here’s what to check:

  • Outpatient mental health coverage: Call the number on the back of your insurance card or log in to your portal to ask about out-of-network benefits.

  • Deductible: This is what you pay out of pocket before reimbursement begins.

  • Coinsurance rate: Once your deductible is met, this determines what percentage your plan reimburses. For example, if your coinsurance is 30%, your insurance may cover around 70% of what it considers the “customary” rate for therapy in your area.

Many clients are surprised to find that their plan reimburses a meaningful portion of the session cost. Services online like Thrizer, or Reimbursify can also make claim submission quick and simple.

Q: Why choose out-of-network therapy?

Out-of-network therapy gives you flexibility, privacy, and choice. You’re not limited to an insurance network, so you can focus on finding the therapist who best fits your needs and values. This approach also allows us to work together based on your goals, not insurance restrictions.
